Philadelphia Book Drive

Rockwell Custom employees participated in a book drive this past summer. The book drive was developed by Philadelphia Early Intervention Speech Therapists who recognized a need for new and improved books in the local daycare centers. The disparity in resources between daycares is extremely apparent in Philadelphia and we saw how this was directly impacting the children we work with. Not only were the books often in poor condition, but they lacked race representation of the children reading them.
Those who participated in this book drive helped provide resources to children in need, increased representation and diversity of the reading materials in local daycares, helped support black authors and illustrators, and helped support small business during a pandemic.
Through social media, word of mouth, and the help of wonderful companies, we were able to surpass our original goal and ultimately collected 1,600 children’s books. With this drive, we provided a crate of books to 40 daycare centers, including the three Philadelphia Ronald McDonald locations.
